Soul Food For February 2016
PASTOR MIKE’S MUSINGS
We are off to a very good start in 2016. Already this year we have experienced phenomenal worship services. Thanks to our Worship Team, Elders and Choir for planning and leading.
I also enjoy our special happenings each Sunday: a baptism, commissioning a Global Ministries Partner- ship trip, a memorial to a beloved church member, a dramatic monologue (wasn’t Patrick Nailon great!). You just never know what will hap- pen one week to the next, which is why you don’t want to miss services often. I realize that as progressive Christians, you are engaged in causes, with family and careers, in full and meaningful ways — which means you can’t be present every Sunday. I also appreciate that you try to make church participation a regular and committed part of your schedule.
I am pleased to announce that we have pledged our basic operating goal for 2016. Now, any further commitments of tithes and offerings can bolster our ministries more and help build our rainy day reserves.
About fifty people participated in our Annual Planning Meeting after worship on January 24. President Jim Cox did a great job leading those present through a process of sharing and determining priorities for our church. The goals we considered that day are summarized on page 16 in this edition of Footprints. Please take time to read over and consider each of the stated goals — with the exception of The Capitol Campaign — which we all agreed was not a “goal”, but rather a means of helping us reach our overall goals . The Cabinet will now consider the feedback from the congregation and determine where we go from here. If anyone has further thoughts, questions, suggestions or concerns, please let one of the officers or me know. Thanks for caring enough to get involved.
We begin Inquirers Classes Feb 21 for newcomers and anyone interested in knowing more about our church and progressive Christianity. Is there someone you can think of to invite, for whom attending might change their life, and that of our church? Help spread the word about the classes.
Peace and Light,
~ Pastor Mike
