LGBTQI OPEN & AFFIRMING MINISTRY EVENT
Our monthly O&A Brunch is usually scheduled for Noon, on the 1st Sunday of each month. Since June 4th is ONA Sunday, we will be hosting the congregation for brunch and a movie in Fellowship Hall, following morning worship.
“I support you, you support me, whoever you are, where ever you come from, shoulder to shoulder, hand in hand.”
The above quote comes from the 2014 movie “Pride”, which was based on a true story that depicts a group of lesbian and gay activists who raised money to help families affected by the lengthy British miners’ strike in 1984, at the outset of what would become the Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners (LGSM) campaign.
The alliance brought together two very different communities and opened their eyes to their common struggles and adversaries. The efforts of LGSM had tremendous unforeseen and lasting effects on both the mining and the gay communities.
This film has been an inspiration on the team preparing this year’s O&A worship service, which is Sunday June 4th. Portions of the movie will be shown during the service as illustrations of how “expressions of solidarity” have changed live.
After worship everyone is invited over to the Fellowship Hall for a brunch hosted by the O&A Ministry and to stay and watch the movie “Pride” in its entirety.
